Wondering what people
cook on these days? I used to use a bit of heavy duty steel mesh over campfire coals as a barby and
cook in a dutch oven. Sadly now I have a Webber BabyQ as a barby and Coleman gas burner. There might be a better way if I ask?

Dunco, Couldn't agree more. I love the BabyQ. My reference to sad was about not getting the chance to sit around the
camp fire often enough.

Just bought one of those two burner clam shell colemans. Usually use a standard two burner
camp stove if not using a fire. Carry a small folding BBQ plate for the fire and a home made fire rack. It has two u shaped end pieces with cross bars about 20 cm apart. Bang one in at each end of the fire and then set three or four steel bars across between each end. Gives three or four height settings for cooking. When not across the fire, I put the chopping board on top and use it as a small table. Cobb oven for Bread, cakes and roasts and as a stove on those rare occasions when there's no firewood. Also have one of the small butane cylinder stoves for the quick roadside billy boil.
Cheers Mick

I have a single ring burner with a small gas cylinder, four
camp ovens, a small cast iron hot plate about 250 mm square, an old Breville cast iron frying pan with all the electrical parts removed and the base ground flat, a little cartridge type gas stove, a billy, a stainless steel kettle, a steel wok, a tripod and an old 9 kg gas bottle converted to an oven. I never take the whole lot with me though, it depends on where I am going and whether or not there are any fire restrictions.

We use a standard 2 burner
camping stove (gas) on which we use a cast iron frypan, a saucepan or a billy. When we have a fire - which we do whenever we can, but we keep it small - we use a small folding BBQ, and the billy, and also a
camp oven. We usually dont have a cooked breakfast, but boil the billy and fill the two thermoses for our lunchtime cuppa. Also have a "bush kettle" for heating
water but seldom use it as it takes space and is fiddly to light.

2 burner gas coleman stove.
Have a wire rack shelf out of an old fridge to put over a fire.
Plus a
camp oven and billy.
Prefer the fire when we can, not always so easy to have a fire these days.
SWMBO just bought one of those little single burner stoves with cartridges for some reason. Will see when she prefers to use it.

For the steel mesh I use a condenser off the back of old fridge, get them for free off any fridge repair place, cut them to any size you want, light and tough.
I
cook sausages, steak, potatoes directly on grill put frypan on for the runny stuff, easy to clean throw into fire for a few minutes before you are ready to
cook.

We use the ATS stainless steel fire set to support the King Billy
camp oven lid over the fire otherwise it's a couple of single burner Coleman multi fuel stoves.

All depends. In the camper trailer we have a Lido Junior gas burner and griller. We carry a Dutch oven plus mesh grill with a flatplate section adn folding legs for campfires. We have a Colemans Clam opener for use when not using the camper trailer. Thinking about a Cobb though.

We use a 3 burner Coleman cooker, a 3mm steel plate on a fire for barby, cast iron
camp oven, and the trusty old tin billy. Oh, and dont forget the mesh & wire toaster on the gas flame. A must have IMHO, and we keep a few at our holiday
shack, is the cast iron toasty toasty thingo (jaffle maker?)
Cant beat cooking on/in the open fire.
Cheers

Unless we have no choice, it's a fold out barby plate/grill over the campfire - we like the compressed sawdust logs, chopped up short, 4 logs will last for hours - and the
camp oven. If no choice, gas with griller.
But nothing finishes a meal quite like gazing into the coals for an hour or two.

I like to
cook in the
camp oven over the coals for tea. Breakfast is usually a toasted bacon and egg sandwich either in the jaffle maker or just on toast fried on a hot plate.
I eat better away than what I do at
home

priority / first choice is always
camp fire using grill (back of fridge) or slab of steel as hot plate....tripod over it for hot
water etc
when there is a lack of wood or fire safety issues or weather issues we have fallen back on gas stove..hate them...wind blows the heat away and they give buggar all heat anyway..and gas bottles can be a safety issue at times
just purchased a webasto diesel
cook top to install in back of vehicle on a slide out........eliminate the gas for ever and still only intend to use when
camp fire cant be used as above
cobb always with us as
well

Depends where you put it or the type of van you use.
A caravan is considered a dwelling and cooking under the awning of one is legal in VIC.

Hubby made a grill out of a fence its got 2" squares so is great for pork chops to slow drip. Have a very large 18" diameter lightweight
camp oven that we bake in and do vegies in the top lid,
Love campfire cooking some times wrap a mixture of favourite vegies in greased (butteror marg) double layer alfoil and bake on the coals. Very simple each person has their own parcel .
Have a duel fuel stove that I call "His altar". I tell folks they must genuflect when viewing and hearing the sales pitch about its wonders .
Have a single burner cartridge emergency burner
Caravan has 4 burners and oven- love the oven to whipp up muffins for morning tea, and thats about its only use
Never
cook in the van love the open fire. Also use the jaffle iron
#### Old time favourite recipee for sweet jaffle
raisin bread
sliced banana
thick custard
brown sugar
Also make rasin bread and tinned apples or peaches or apricots
in the jaffle iron

In the jayco -- i just use the
cook top --- but used to use a
camp oven - a 10 mm dia hotplate 3 foot by 4 foot ( everyone could use it at the same time , i had also welded reinforcing and removable legs on the bottom and is still straight as the day i cut it from the main sheet at work in 99 )
BUT today i am in search of a COBB COOKER - seen everyone raving about it so will get one as a xmas pressy for myself and the misses....

We use an MSR burner or Trangia. Take up no space and work in any weather conditions. They use next to no fuel. A litre of shellite or metho will power the dual fuel lantern and meet our cokking requirements for a week. If we catch fish or have vegies, they are done in the coals on the fire. We don't take a gas bottle anywhere anymore.

Stainless steel four burner + griller on the Campomatic C/T in the annex if and when raining or open fires ban ,, otherwise on contained open fire [ 2x 450 by 300 steel wire fridge shelves + 2x 450 by 300 ally tread plate hinged to create a 450mm square fire pit ],,, tripod and 2x 4.5lt
camp ovens , barbie plate made of 1/2 mesh 1/2 steel plate 460x240 sits on fire containment "walls" ,, great believer that dont "need" a large raging fire but that camping is not realy camping without a fire.
