Well, tomorrow is the last day of work so we are going fishing. 8 of us on a charter from West Beach to Tapleys Shoal off Edithburg. Apparently the snapper are starting to come on there. Anyone been in the last week? What did you catch? I've heard up to 15kg snapper, 1 kg KG Whiting and the odd visiting Great White but haven't actually seen the fish to confirm. Cant wait though...

Hi Louie,
I get over the shoals quite regularly and the snapper are biting out of control since the ban. You might have to go north and hunt for the whiting but I am sure the charter operator will help you out there. Its very rare that you miss out on the shoals but the charter has got grounds around the island just in case. If the weather is good you would expect to bag out very quickly with big reds so make sure you are first in the water or you might miss out. Watch out for the Noah's too, one time we were over there a mako nearly jumped in the boat with us.
Even if you only get a few and you get a wet day you will still have a better time fishing than any good day working.

Tight lines Chard.

Thanks Chard. Thats as they say, the worst days fishing is better than the best day at work. Last time I went snapper fishing, out from Port Vic, 1/2 way across the gulf, we bagged out on snapper really quickly. Had to move, bagged out on whiting, and then had some sport fishing inside Wardang Island catching Sweep and big Tommies. Lots of fun. Cant wait for tomorrow. Hope to see a shark or two, just to get at one with nature & all.

Louie

Well, you didn't miss much. It was a long trip from West Beach to Edithburg & back, 3 hrs travelling all up. We only ended up with 20 good fish - 12 KG Whiting 45 to 48cm, 5 huge Flathead, 2 small trevally and a set of bolt cutters. Caught 3 Snapper but all were 1cm undersize. Can you believe that? Anyway, I have some nice Whiting fillets in the fridge.

Weather was great though, and the beer was cold.
