Had my Firestone air bags replaced today by ARB. Only took just over 1/2 hr. They are now the new improved air bags, I was told. However this may be of interest to other Firestone air bags owners - but is relevant to a 2006, 100 series Toyota Sahara T/D Automatic, but could also maybe apply to the Sahara V8 and Manual versions
They are not to exceed 25psi
Reason : The Sahara has hydraulic lifters to all 4
wheels, i.e. at low speed, up to 35km/h, the car chassis can be lowered 50mm and raised 50mm from the normal driving height by the hydraulic lifters which are activated by the driver when required.
Before lifting the chassis up or down, as explained above, the pressure in the airbags should be lowered to arround 10psi
I have been advised that if the air bags are at Max. pressure, 25psi, and the car chassis is raised or lowered by the hydraulic lifters, it puts undue pressure on the valve on the top of the air bags due to the coil springs being compessed and stretched by the hydrolic lifters.
Perhaps the are Toyota technicians on this
forum that may like to comment on this
Cheers

UM this might be a stupid question, But why would you bother putting Airbags in when you have Hydraulic lifters.

The hydrolic lifters revert back, automatically, to the normal driving level when you exceed 35km/h. They are not for carrying heavy loads at normal driving speeds
