Hi all,
I am considering purchasing a New Ford
Ranger super cab 3 litre 4x4 auto diesel (XLT). My intension is to remove the rear tub, add a aluminium tray and a slide on camper. My camper weight is approx 700 klgs when loaded. The base length of the camper is 2100mm.
A local tray manufacturer told me the longest tray that is legal is 2060mm for this vehicle. I currently have this camper on a single cab STR 3ltr 4x4 Nissan Navara. Good set up but my girl wants more cab room and an automatic. Does any member own a
Ranger? I would love some feed back. It is my understanding that the
Ranger is the only Auto Diesel in a super cab on the market, new. Super cab is the small extra cab, not the true four door extra cab.

Mate,
I have the new
ranger , auto 3.0litre,
I would not recommend buying one to anybody!
- 450km's MAX at fuel light. (lucky work car and fuel supplied)
- 5 speed auto gearbox is the worst i have ever had,Bangs into gear, If your crusing at say 100kms an hour and you touch the brakes the torque converter unlocks and goes back to idle and then you have the revs increase until it reaches speed and then is really snappy..Very hard to drive the car smoothl.
-Radio always has crackly reception.
- CD Stacker dont work properly.
-The noise on some gear changes makes me cringe.
- 15 purchased by company and all the same.
- Buy navara or buy MANUAL
ranger

Colin
I drove a
Ranger from LA to Denver in June 2000 and thought it a bit weak on power, maybe they could be better now ,

hi all & merry xmas just joined so I could answer this , bought a ford
Ranger a couple of months ago , 5 sp. auto dual cab 4wd 6000k's so far , fitted it with front bar ,side steps rear bar, bigger
tank & canopy at the moment the fuel is running at 9.3 ltrs /100k's and expect it to get better, auto trans excellent does seem to be a bit sluggish off the mark, BUT & I mean BUT if you want to and put your boot into it ( accelerator that is ) it will lay rubber right across an intercection no probs . I've done twice inadverdently Pick up the camper late Feb then will be off mainly short trips for a while then a big one up north But back to the
Ranger theres a few around and i ask owners how's the ute and they all answer very good and are happy with them

Rusty,
Your words bring some comfort to me when the
Ranger is so new to the market place. I drove a standard version yesterday.
Auto Diesel. Very impressed with the acceleration. Did you buy an XLT model? The transmission change seemed quite smooth.
My son drives a Pajero auto 3.2 Diesel. This is a beautiful combination of automatic and power. We often tow a 2000 KG
boat . It handles seems effortless. 110 KMP at 2,100 revs.
I hope the
RANGER can do the same. Have you towed any have heavy trailers or vans in hilly country?
To you and all the members who have replied and viewed this thread, Merry Xmas.

COLIN I bought a xl model , xlt had gear I did not want . I got tubliner , auto & safety pack for $38200 on road . Ford had a deal on and at the time the
ranger was $4000 cheaper than the triton &$5000 less than the hilux that was base models with options Triton had no auto at the time . I have only pulled a tandem trailer (flat load of steel ) about 2 ton and pulled it ok easier than I thought it would . As for revs & k's it shows near 2200 at 110 k's in that range , I haven't checked it out closely but will when we get the camper & do a long trip the best thing to do is drive them all and compare the dollars then check around different dealers of the same brand as i found with the ford dealers , a big difference between them best of luck

"it will lay rubber right across an intercection no probs".....with 115kw it must be in the rain with some oil mixed in!
