Those travelling the CSR and GRR and roads west during Aug-Sep 2008 be aware that a large contingent of 2WD vehicles will be sharing part or all of these roads.
Their intent is to enter CSR from Glenayle Road (
well 10) and head south to
Wiluna, then west and north to GRR and
Kununurra via Skull Springs,
Marble Bar and
Derby.
At this stage 55 vehicles and more than 100 people are registered from here and overseas. Suspect this is one you either join or get there first by several days.
Will that many cars/people overload the CSR and other
free camp areas? Seems to me their plan is to
camp out with minimal provisions/facilities.
See

for full details of route and dates
Merry Christmas
Chris

I say good on em.
If I remember correctly, a Citroen was the first 2wd vehicle to get to the top of
Cape York. But then again, it could have been an Austin 7.
Whatever, these sorts of blokes are adventurers, Remember Len Beadel, he was doing a job on a mission, bloody remarkable. Look at Hans Thorlstr..... (cant remember the last bit) sorted out a lot of this country, not native here but great contibutors.
Would still love one of those DS Pallace models from the 70's!!!
Happy Christmas

Not wishing to hi-jack the thread BUT in keeping with 'other Ozzie legends' such as pavlova, Phar Lap, Russell Crowe, Crowded House etc etc
I belive it WAS an Austin 7 driven by 2 Kiwis - what was that you said? 2 Kiwi's!! - No!! - not 2 KIWI'S!!! - :-))))) who were the first to drive a car to
cape York - The book ' We and the baby' chronicle the trip and I 'think' there may be some old movie footage showing the trip or parts of it
Apologies for the partial hi jack
I now sit back and take the inevitable flack that I am sure will follow this post :-))))
Thank god I have broad shoulders :-))))))

I suspect that the field of 55 will rarely
camp in the one spot together. There may be lots of stragglers and broken down ones. I didn't see their back up provisions, but I do wish them all a lot of luck...they may need it!
