Don't know if this has been posted before. For those of us who don't use 4WD vehicles and are happy with a Falcon for our towing needs, here is a fix for the EF and EL Falcon running hot when you're towing.

Standard thermostat opens at 91 deg C , remove it and replace with an after market version that opens at 82Deg C. Before you put it in, drill a 3/16 hole in its flange to let a small amount of water to flow through all the time. Obviously check the condition of all other cooling stuff as well.

Have read elsewhere on this site about these vehicles overheating. Have done this to mine and it's behaved beautifully.

Another thing is to make sure you have an oil cooler fitted to auto transmission. These will overheat and self destruct if not fitted. Only rated to tow 500-600 kgs without it

Have only owned the car for 2 years. Hadn't heard of the mod so thought I may not be the only one completely ignorant of it.Worth sharing anyway.

Yep good tip LE. Just out of curiousity, have you had to have the head done on yours yet?

No not yet, it's only done 95000kms so far. Originally owned by fastidious old guy. Had some new tyres on the back 2 months ago. Bloke from Beaurepaires couldn't believe the odometer reading for a car that's 13 years old. :)

That's good mate. I had a couple of these models and worked on others and found they had an inherent problem with heads, so may be something for future reference.
