I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Im chasing some info and so far have been feed different info everytime i ask someone. I own a 88 SWB Maverick and is currently a 4.2 petrol. I am looking at putting a later model 1998-2001 GU 4.2 turbo diesel in it. Some people have told me that the TB42 gearbox and transfer case and diffs will be fine. But others have told me i will need all GU stuff. I thought the diffs would have different ratios but i am unsure about the rest of drive train. Any help would be greatful as i am getting sick of being told crap by wreckers wanting me to pay $11000 for a wrecked GU to make a sale.

Hi swb, 92 td42 have the best pistons for fitting turbos, i have a 92 td42 and fitted a supercharger from a commodore, my opinion is far superior than a turbo more torgue in lower revs ie 800 plus, fully servicable and no extra heat, i get 8 plbs of boost at idle and then al thropugh the rev range, works out about the same dollars as fitting a turbo with a intercooler. Cant help with the diff ratios but have heard they are dfferent to the petrol. Best deal is look for a wrecked 4.2 diesal and buy the lot keep the good bits and sell the rest. Col

Colin,

I posted you an email a few days ago asking a few sticky questions about SC's and patrols, did you get that? I found your email address in the archives from last year Kiwicol@optusnet.com.au. Is this one still correct? if not could you let me know the right address so i can forward the email.

Cheers

All TD42s have same mounts. Bellhousings are different on Petrol to Diesel.

I can put you onto someone that has done a few of these conversions. Pete Christie of Christie Engineering(generators, and also Christie Creation the comp Truck)..

Mail me off list, there are few differences in the bellhousings and other bits and pieces...

but then again Pete will have those bits layin round too..
