My brother is looking at buying a 2002 / 3 petrol model. I think its the V6 version.
Has anyone got one, and if so what are they like IE fuel consumption.
Are there any problems with them or have you had problems with yours.
Brian

The goss is that the Holden Monterey is a very much underrated vehicle.. That is, its MUCH better than everyone says. Dunno about the fuel economy but Crazie did the Simmo in one and didn't need to carry bags of fuel.

I have owned my 1998 Monterey since new, now 145,000ks
Fuel consumption is not bad on highway cruising, not good around town in winter. OEM tyres lasted 85,000ks.
Mine's been to
Cape York, all over the
Vic high country, through rivers and no particular issues which could be called design faults. I have aftermarket torsion bars and springs, plus air bags in the rear. The luggage area and load capacity is huge.
Chances are he'll be paying $12000-$15000 for the vehicle, and for that price range it's a very robust and capable vehicle.
Be prepared to order the spares from the USA - eg, my vehicle speed sensor died a few weeks ago, price here $550 but not available from dealers at all - price from the USA $US66 plus shipping.

I brought a 98 se with 101000ks last april, and couldnt be happier with it. No problems at all now 116000ks. Very quick for a 4by, brother borrowed it the other day and nearly got booked inadverantly. Great towing vehicle hardly knows my boat is their where as the 3lt paj workes hard on hills towing same load. Best fuel ecomony I have got is 24.66mpg siting on 100k with road tyres.
Very underated vehicle

I have recently purchased a 99 Monterey, and don't yet have fuel usage figures I can offer, but, the petrol engines have restrictors in the exhaust that apparently can be removed with a couple of hours work, and this improves the economy by (allegedly) 2 litres per 100km with no adverse affect on the engine.
Another improvement ( 1 litre per 100km) can be made by replacing the standard muffler with a sports straight through glass filled muffler (whatever the hell that means).
For what it is worth for three weeks of ownership : good strong feeling vehicle, good room, comfortable, good to tow with.
Plenty of reading on
