Don't wish to put a dampener on it, but you can get the bottles re-certified. Had it done a while back, tested, fitted new tap, stamped new expiry date, still a fair bit cheaper than a new bottle, and filled with gas to boot.

Check the 'quality of manufacture' of your bottles. Many older 9kg were (I'm told by a 'tester') of superior metal quality and not the 'rubbish' we are seeing produced these days. Your choice.

Thanks for your replies guys , i basicaly work 12 hr + shifts. ( leave home at 5.30 am get home 6.30 pm) so have very little time to go chase up an inspection and so forth - and on my days off i use them to go away camping ( with execption of today )

will try the swap and go option and hope they dont see the dates - if not they go to the bin ....

Just make sure you go a busy servo, where there is only one person working the console. Leave the old bottle out the front near the Swap N Go cage, making sure you've caught the eye of the console operator beforehand. Then go inside and pay for the new replacement. Out here in the country they will often just give you the keys to the cage and you'll be allowed to go out and swap the cylinder over by yourself (they can see you from the console). Too easy.

As mentioned earlier Quick Gas which our local BP uses will replace out of date bottles. It's on the gas stand instructions and I asked at the servo.

There are still places that you are able to fill your own bottles. I like them

If they are the old "HEATANE" brand they are possibly fully Galvanised inside and out and will last just about for ever . Like some one else has said ,well worth getting tested and re stamped because today's imported version are crap. Cost last month was for, Test + New valve + re-stamped + full of gas = $44.00
