Hi all I am off to Mckillops bridge in early Jan to do a bit of
camping and was wondering what the facilities are like down there and also whether there would be a crowd
camping down there at this time of year.
What is there to see etc.. I have done some homework on the internet but would like some first hand knowledge off people that have travelled down there.
Thanks for any info in advance.

Two rotten campgrounds I would drive some distance to avoid.

Quite likely, I suspect.

The bridge and the river - that's it.
The
unofficial word is that the road via Wheelers Saddle is now open but check before you go - it's a long way round the other way.

try the
camping area down the bottom of little river
junction track, not far from the bridge, pit
toilets and a nice
sandy beach.

Hi Clint, we might cross paths as we're heading that way too from the 3rd. Did trip from
Little River Gorge, across McKillops and on to
Delegate in 2005. It's as windy as they come with some very steep drop offs and no safety rail. We intend to do the Deddick trail, Mt Tingaringy, Errinundra Np and a drive and walk to the source of the Murray where it hits the straight bit of NSW - Vic border, which is now called Townsend Corner. Have a safe trip, cheers, Warrie

Izey76,
We were there at this time of the year a few years ago and there was hardly anyone there. That's not to say it will be like that this year though.
The
camping grounds are not all that good in my opinion, but it is a spectacular drive down from the west via McKillops Bridge Rd and I must say the bridge itself is worth seeing, but to stay there,
well that's up to you.
We left and continued on towards
Jindabyne along the
Snowy River Rd and Barry Way and found a spot right on the river near
Sandy Creek Fire Trail and had no no crowds to speak off.
Cheers,
Cruiser

Second the vote for the
campsite at Little River
Junction. The track down is definitely 4wd only (as per
sign) and is reasonably steep and bumpy. Not one for first timers in my opinion.
If you head south on the east side of the snowy there is a nice spot called 'hicks' at the bottom of Varneys Track and a number of spots olong the river at Jacksons crosing. The Raymond
Creek camping area is also a nice spot.
No idea about crowds, but suspect they'l be everywhere.
