Just a report on use of this lifting tool (
http://www.thehitchmaster.com) ....... (I have no affiliation with the sellers etc. - simply offered for the consideration of forumites like me with a dickie back). As others have said in previous posts, when you see that bloke do the demos at various shows, you are tempted, but then usually resist the urge (his sales pitch is a real show business 'act" and his claims can sound a bit 'loose', but there are a few factual gems in the routine). Anyway, I've been looking for something to help re lifting heavy gear - I happened to see the demo at two different shows over 3 days (a field day and a caravan show in Vic) - ended up buying a multi-tool kit for $50 (at least $130 worth as I recall :-o) ha ha .............
Have used it a number of times now to lift and position heavy gear that I could not attempt otherwise - as long as I have the paperwork to remind me on the various rigs, its been a winner for me. The only caveat is you need an overhead structure (tree bough - shed beam etc.) to rig from, but once done properly, away you go - I lift my spare wheel onto the swing away carrier with it - also used it to lift the W9000 winch back in this am (out for a service) - also used it to put some heavy metal gear into the boat trailer for transport. For me, it has tuned out to be a very sensible buy. BTW - it's promoted as an aid for tying down loads too - can't see the advantage there (over a truckies rope rig) - as for the claims of hauling trucks out of bogs - I'll leave that for others to try..... cheers to all for the new year !

Good to see that someone has had some luck with one..... I know it certainly wasn't a winner for me.
Cheers

The set I bought had two of the big goldy coloured units and 4 of the smaller blue ones. The big ones are used in tandem for heavy lifting - the smaller blue jobs seem mainly intended for tying down loads..... whatever..............

i have had a set of them since not long after they came out.(the large ones) and they worked so
well i bought the smaller set.i mainly used them for tying loads on the ute/trailer.i find they work good with ropes when they are wet and are good with nylon ropes.i have used the two of them together to get more pulling power ,a bit fiddly to set up but can be done.have used them to pull some heavy stuff on onto ute as
well
