hi, i have been searching through the threads for dreampot recipes and have seen a couple of times that a roast lamb has been made in one, this sounds good so if someone can fill me in on how it's done, or any other favourite dreampot recipes. i do have the books so i am mainly after the recipes that aren't in it. thanks Chris

G'day and Happy New Year Bill,

I was talking to Annette at lunchtime about this post.... I don't think she was trying to imply that you can do a roast in the Dreampot...hahaha

I wonder how the s/steel pot from the Dreampot would take to being placed on the fire and used as a camp oven....LOLOL

Cheers mate

G'day back to you Bill and Annette.

I certainly wasn't criticising Annette's reply, just querying if she had tried the recipe.

I checked out the Deampot Website and it did state you could do a Roast in the dreampot. Hmm again.

I think there must be some poetic licence involved by the manufacturer here though, as my understanding of "a roast" is a constant supply of a higher external heat, as in an "oven" process, rather the the slower stewing or baking process involved with the Dreampot.

Bev & I looked at a demo at one of the 4WD shows with the possibility of buying one, but decided our method of setting up camp and having a drink or two while we prepare and cook our meal, usually with the Cobb cooker, or camp oven, suited us better.

The dreampot is still an interesting concept though, just not for us.

Cheers.
Bill.

G'day Chris,

Sorry to spoil any fun you may have been planning with the Dreampot (note I said Dreampot and not Dreamboat) but the Dreampot does not do roasts. It is a slow cooker in the manner of the Crockpots of some years ago. Great to do corned beef, goulashs, steamed puddings but not roasts.
Now the Cobb on the other hand does roasts, dampers, bread etc cos it uses heat beads whereas the Dreampot uses residual heat from the stuff to be cooked to finish off.
I have both and use them regularly at home and away.

Cheers

Sounds good but is more a"pot" roast than a "baked" roast.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a good pot roast.

yes i do have one and very pleased with it. i did see a few times mentioned that a roast lamb had been cooked in a dreampot in an oven bag. i assume i brown it then place in the bag (well sealed) and cover with water then boil, but not to sure that's why I'm trying to findout who has done this as i think it should be worth a try.

HI.. I have a Dreampot and have cooked the Lamb Hot Pot Roast that is in the recipe book. The meat is browned all over and then placed in an oven bag and into the large inner pot with hot water poured all round. It was a great success and very tasty. I have not had the pot for very long and have been experimenting with it at home before travelling. Made the christmas fruit mince scones.. yummy!! but a bit of a longwinded procedure.
I am confident that the pots use when travelling will be well worth the expenditure.
hope this helps you. Ad.
