Happy New Year everyone!
Just want to share my experience with you!
My son Matty (10) got a Wii game console for x-mas - Fantastic things
Matty does not use the wrist strap on the remote - not so Fantastic.
The game comes with a game called Wii Sports, which enable you to play Tennis, Baseball and Bowling etc.
Well, while bowling Matty accidentally threw the remote into the Plasma TV!! Smashing the front glass. I had to count to ten! and take a big breath.
This is despite the constant reminders the game gives you to wear the wrist strap.
Insurance is sending out a claim form.
Matthew will always use the wrist strap? yes you will!!

We still chucked cricket balls through someone's window in the old days - my Dad went ape when i used a banned shanghai to break a louvre on my bedroom window! Cheaper than a plasma TV I guess.

Not worth claiming insurance so looking for another replacement to match the other 2

The noise of the glass breaking certainly got my attention.
But I am over it, I can laugh about it now.
Matty still feels bad about it, but at least he wears that strap with out fail.I hear him telling his friends too. So we have all learnt something.

G'day Tony, aside from the whole broken tellie thing, how does the console compare to others, ie graphics, choice of games and how accurate is the Wii games handset. Is it reasonably accurate?

I got to tell you I am very impressed.
I (or we) have every game console there is and this one is very very good.
Graphics, I would give an 'A'
Choice of games, I could'nt tell you as I have'nt gone out looking yet. But the 'Wii Sports' game is excellent.
I would say the handset it is very accurate with a lot of feel, but at the same time easy to use. Bowling for example you know when you have bowled a beauty and you are rewarded for it. At the same time you know when you have muffed it.
Because Matty has'nt got to bowl a heavy ball, we are even in our ability and therefore it's quite competitive and great fun.
Playing Wii certainly is more active than other consoles, particulaly when boxing. Definitely working out with a heavy sweat on the brow. Thats got to be good.
I would definitely suggest a second handset as changing over one handset with the wrist strap gets tedious.
Other than the TV copping it, we have really enjoyed it!

home from the store with two. He wanted one as

The games have entertained us all since Christmas.
Son did tell me of the issue of the wrist strap and showed us this web site.

Hi Tony,
Sounds very familiar - our 10 yo daughter had the wrist strap on but not tightened - hit a beautiful backhand in tennis and let go of the remote, straight in to the glass of the sliding door of course...nice big star shaped cracks in it now!!
Live and learn - always fasten the wrist straps. The games are great to play - really enjoy the interactive aspect.

You should get it chipped, then you can download games free off the net :D off torrents.
I did same with my Nintendo DS and now have 480 games I GOT FREE OFF NET!!! saving of $50-100each!
Only $130ish to get Wii chipped and $60 for DS
Now you can get an LCD Tele instead :)
