Will be travelling from
Maryborough Qld to
Coffs Harbour NSW, and back towing a tandem trailer (with 4WD on board for return trip).
Can anyone advise which is best route for towing with the aim of avoiding traffic, long uphill climbs, downhill descents [and those nasty men in white cars ;) ]
Hoping to travel next week!

To avoid winding descents and climbs you will probably be best suited to staying on the Bruce and Pacific highways.
The nasty men in white cars are not only in white cars in the
Coffs Harbour region ;))
They are in a
bright Orange, a Sky Blue,a Black and a Light Green coloured one. I think towing a Tandem car trailer will reduce your chances of speeding so what else would the pick on you for??
Cheers Kev

Have to agree with Kev.
Once you get clear of the brissy area it should be a good run down the coast.
We also have multi coloured cars on the Tweed!!!.

Brisbane (up & over that big
bridge??)- do try & avoid peak hour !!

Ever thought of going the 'back' way?
Hang a left at Beerwah onto the Kilcoy Berrwah Road
Hang another left at Kilcoy (great camping
shop in town if you need supplies!)
Down the
Brisbane Valley Highway
Bit of a run around
Ipswich (great place for a tucker stop!)
Down to
Boonah, and through
Boonah
Follow to the end of this road, you should have Mt Barney National Park on your left
At the end of this you follow the signs down the Mt Lindsay Hgy
Down to Casino
Thence right at Casino to
Grafton
Lovely run. Some narrow bits but all nice and safe, much quicker route and scenic, with some nice spots to have a picnic or lunch stops.
Re the 'nasty' folk out there in white cars (or whatever colour they may be) I reckon they do a fantastic job keeping the crazy's to the speed limit.
Good map will show you where we suggest.
Have fun.

Allan,
I know that they have done a fair bit of work on the Mt Lindsey Highway but i still wouldn't like to tow a tandem trailer through there either loaded or unloaded. But that's just my opinion.
Cheers Kev

Thanks Allan
Knew there was a 'back way" but didn't know the route.
Will be traveling late afternoon/night so little ones can sleep through the drive, so scenic probably won't matter...just want a nice easy drive without too much traffic LOL.
Thank you all for your comments :)

Good onya Kev! you posted as I was typing my reply to Allan!
Looks like maybe back to the coastal route!
I think that by traveling evening/night should miss most of the traffic...so maybe will stick to the coast, and let the navman direct me. Just don't like driving the tandem through heavy traffic...

There's a shortcut to avoid having to drive through the
Ballina traffic (if in daytime) but with a trailer on it's a 80kph rd. I go that
way with a big tandem trailer and just take it quietly. Saves mileage too.
