For those who (like me) have damaged the rear plastic on the Prado, here is some good news.
I rang Kaymar this morning and was told a unit would be available at the end of February 2008. Have a look at:
http://www.kaymar.net/vehicles/prado120.htm
Price for a single tyre carrier will be roughly $2,500. The unit shown in the photograph is a prototype apparently.
Regards
Kim

Looks like a bit of body work is required, is that included?.
I had a steel custom bumper made up for
mine that cradled around the existing bumper, saved damage on many occasions.
The unit however did not include a wheel carrier. The design we run with is still available at my friends 4x4 works in Geelong.

Joe what body work do you think needs to be done?
In my experience Kaymar stuff never requires "Body Work" purely unbolt the OEM bar and bolt on the new, wire up the lights job done.
Good looking bar and enhances the Playdoe's looks in my view.

John,
From the
pic they have created a flat face...can be seen on the
pic behind the pivot point of the wheel carrier.

They also seem to be retaining just the top section of the original bumper and then flattening off behind the pivot point.
Overall, looks good just the same.

Yeah I see now what you mean but I think the OEM bar plastic work extended up wards and Kaymar have possibly made a cover to fill in
the gap left after the OEM bar was removed???
Still a nice looking bar.

If you think the design is want you need, it might be worth talking to them about the body work...from the horses mouth
Cheers

K&N 4WD have had a rear bar/wheel carrier for the 120 Prado available for a couple for years. About the same dollars as the Kaymar unit.

The wrap around bar we came up with around 4 years ago was $600,as the spare wheel was already on the back door th design served our needs
well.

Kim,
Just an other option Kim have a look at the rear wheel bars that are made by All-Terrain.
They are like the ones supplied by K&N, Dragon is the bloke you want to speak too, they are located at 690 South Rd Moorabbin
Ph: 9532-5558.
I have one of there bars fitted on the Troopy and i'm very happy with it i got them too fit a high lift jack holder and a bike rack.
Regards....Stephen

Stephen
Yes I'm aware there are other products on the market and I've had a look at the All-Terrain unit, but decided to wait until the Kaymar bar became available.
I noticed in the Kaymar picture that the bar does'nt appear to have anchor points for snatch straps etc. Hopefully they'll be incorporated in the commercial model.

Kim
