Howdy all,
Just been checking out the blues festival and in particular the camping facilities, found one location Belongil fields, not too interested at this site as they want $275 for 7 nights, and the list of conditions is ridiculous.
Would like to know what others have done in the past or better still any one want to donate a patch of grass for me to
camp on.
Regards.....Stephen

Their web site says $12 per person for a powered site. Sounds quite reasonable to me, or do they jack up the price for the festival weekend?

All the
camp areas near Byron Bay hike up the prices for Blues Festival plus have a minimum amount of nights. I was thinking of going to Blues Festival if I can find someone to hang out with as hubby will be in Thailand. I have stayed at Wooyung in the past which although very basic camping is reasonably close or might be lucky to kick out the tenants in my unit at Casuarina in time for Blues Festival. Checkout the
forum on the Blues Festival website for other ideas.

Sorry, the
forum is listed as "bulletin board" on the Bluefest website. Try this link www.bluesfest.com.au/main.aspx
I checked with my tenant and not due to leave apartment till Sat 23March so will have to try camping. Checkout Wooyung Beach Caravan park at www.wooyungbeach.com.au which is 20mins north of Byron Bay. I have stayed here a couple of times at
Easter and it is a bit crowded but really fun and friendly and they accept dogs so if you are one of the people against dogs and camping you may want to avoid.
I have a friend in
Ballina. Maybe he will let us all
camp in his backyard??

From previous experience I can assur eyou that you will be camping on top of each other.. if they could get double decker tents, they would demand that everyone use these. Honestly the guy wires from your tent will be crossing withthe people next to you. Traditionally it rains that weekend too, so I hope your got a big dose of patients and tollerance and are real keen on blues and gunga as you will probbaly get high just from passive smoking.. I used to love going to the festival but now it has become a Festy ville.. soory I can't offer any furhter qadvice re camping but I can assur eyou that all the campgounds will be packed. One alternative might be to
camp at Balina and drive in, but then you have to compete with the traffic. you might also try the Byron Bay Beach caravan/camping ground but it is prime real estate and may cost even more.. The BB council is rmapant when it comes to camping anywhere else too, if you so much as pull off the side of the road to "rest/revive survive" for 5 minutes they will slap a 300 fine on you..... I have seen council workers and police going along cutting tent guy ropes on illegally camped people and for those that tough it out and figure they will just sleep on
the beach.. They send the police out to kick you until you get up and "move along" BB is really a heavily policed and "guarded" little piece of privatised paradise.. the Blus FT AND New years ever anre the 2 weekends you could not pay me to go there. Hope you have a great time and all, but you are a braver man than I
