could someone tell me you can drive along the goolwa beach to the murray mouth, or has the beach still blocked off for dredging?

Hi Shane

Just got back from a week at Middleton, went cockling and the sign in the car park stated the mouth was open.

Didn't check it out as I was not in my vehicle.

Hi shane,

You can drive right down to the mouth, we were down there on New Years day fishing on the Hindmarsh side.

Adam.

Yes you can drive right down to the mouth on the Hindmarsh Island side. Bitumen road all the way. I think the question was, can you drive 'along the beach' from the Goolwa beach to the seaward side of the Murray Mouth. Don't know for sure (at the moment) , can be subject to tides, chopped up sand, waste disposal hoses from dredging operations, Council restrictions/limitations etc. Suggest you check with either Lock Master at Goolwa Barrage or Alexandrina Council (08) 8555 7000 (Mon - Fri) for a definite answer.

Hi
Yes,you can drive from the Goolwa end to the murray mouth, dredging is just at the mouth and should not effect you getting there. You MUST watch tide times, if used to sand driving it is an easy drive.
Cheers Lyndon

Hi Lyndon, I wouldn't class any beach an easy drive. We live down the road from Moana Beach and you would be surprised at the No. of 4wds we have seen bogged to the chassis just on Moana. Goolwa can be very tricky, especially when you get to the section that narrows not far b4 the mouth, chopped up loose sand 18-24 inches deep is not what I would call an easy drive. As you say, generally this condition is dependant on the tides.
Cheers Peter
