Hi All. Hope the new year is shaping up well for you.

After dramas and traumas house sittings and van fittings, I am nearly ready for life on the road in my Hiace. It is currently shrinking faster than I can pack it!

With all this luverly rain, I am going to need an awning sooner than later. It has a tarp which is a pain to slot in on my own - but is OK once it's organised.

What brand/style of awning would you recommend for easy handling when you arrive somewhere in the rain? Also it needs to be sturdy for frequent use.

Thanks.

Marion

What part of Oz are you in ?
Mine came from Bob Burrage in Wollongong NSW. $280 and comes in a Zip up cover. Mine stays rolled up on the side of the 4By. Great value

Hi Vince

I'm in Qld at the moment.

I certainly like the price of yours. Does it have the frame and legs attached all the time? Or is it more like a permanently attached tarp?

More like the permantly attached tarp. The poles fit into the cover and I have a small bag of pegs & ropes that lives in the ute.
Ours is great for lunch stops when there is a lack of shade.

Hi Marion
I have see and now ordered the Black Widow Awning. Sets up in under 1 minute with one person, unreal and very sturdy.

Hi Stephen

I've just tried to check out the Black Widow Awning on the net. Can't get a picture that tells me much. Also can't find a price.

Does it have legs attached? Is the 1 minute setup sufficient for a breezy day? one minute on a rainy day sounds great.

Hi Marion
It has 2 legs that are in place all the time, you just fold them up when packing up the awning. The awning in 100% canvas and proofed. When we were shown how quick it was to erect, we could not believe our eyes.
Also part of the set up, and always in place are 2 guy ropes in the event of breezy weather. They are not the cheapest on the market, starting at $600, but well worth the investment. They are 100% Australian made and available Australia wide from selected 4X4 outlets.

I hope this helps you out.

Cheers

Hi Stephen

That's about the price I thought I'd have to pay. But I have just sent them an email asking a few more questions - re sides, etc.

You make them sound good.

Cheers,

Marion

Hi Marion,
You may not get a reply straight away, as they are closed down until next Monday 14th January 2008, for their annual Christmas/New Year Break. I have been dealing with a very helpful lady, Mandy who is away until 17th January.

They are great people to deal with and make a first rate product to match. I also have their rear draw system, cargo barrier and forward storage, so I know first hand the quality of their products, and no I am not employed by them.

Cheers

Thanks Richard.

I would have quite liked the sort with the arms on the van, but the Hiace has doors that come in the wrong places for the standard widths of awning.

Just followed your link and they look similar to the Black Widow - as far as one can tell from the photos. I have emailed them for more info.

Thanks

Marion

i was told by the man who owns the company, and he tells me that they make Black Widow awnings for them but he cannot sell them,

I got mine delivered from QLD to WA cheaper than I could get BW ones over here..

Have Fun
