Hi All.
what's the best way of securing a gas bottle to my roof rack, not keen on carrying in back of car.
also my second spare, was thinking of getting some large bolts at bunnings and bolt down, this OK?
thanks steve

Not too shaw what the correct method of transporting a gas bottles is but like you i've wacked mine on the roof i've placed the 9kg bottle in a milk create and used 2 tie down straps and it has not gone any where yet.

cheapest way - easy to secure - just don't get busted grabbing one from your local shop ;)

Why not just get a proper 9kg LPG bottle holder from a caravan place....the ones they weld onto a caravan's "A" frame. These have an over-centre latch (or some have a long bolt that can be used to tighten the bottle into place).

As for the spare wheel, yes, a 1/2" bolt could be used. You could either weld a suitable nut onto the roof rack and use a length of threaded rod (this would allow you to remove the whole mounting system for when you want to use the rack for something large like a table top) OR you could weld a standard bolt pointing upwards, onto the roofrack, slip the wheel over it and use a large washer and nut etc.

same as previous post. I chuck it is a old milk crate and use tie downs (not leastic but proper straps with proper locks on them that way it's easy to just release the levers on the straps and bring it down..also tuck in spare tarp or rope etc in beside the bottle as required..
