I've just bought a NK Pajero and have my Tekonsha Prodigy break controller which I removed from my old 4WD.

Could anyone with a similar 4WD advise how they fitted the break controller as I don't particularly want to fit it at the bottom of the dashboard as in a similar position in a previous vehicle I was forever bumping the break controller with my leg getting into and out of the vehicle.

Can the break controller be mounted to the centre console vertically, rather than horizontally? I recall that the Prodigy has self levelling so it should be able to be mounted in any position.

Regards

Jardry, I have an '05 NP; mine is on a light steel bracket attached behind the driver hand grab. Easy to see, easy to adjust and remove and no soft-tissue injuries if there's a prang. I can send you a photo if you give me an email address. Cheers, Ray

Jardy I had an NK before my current Triton. Can't remember the NK dash, but on the Triton, similar from memory, I removed the ashtray, and it fits there nicely, at about 50 degrees, wires through the ashtray cavity & easy to operate. Unit must not be over 70 degree from horizontal when fitted according to Tekonsha. Cheers mate, Fred.

Hi Fred,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to the forum. The NK ashtray is in the centre consol, not the dash consol. There is a spot below the radio that would be OK, but I intend putting the UHF into that spot.

There is a spot above the fuel release clip which looks promising - I'll see if the auto electrician can mount it there.

Between 0, being horizontal, and 70 degrees above horizontal is optimum position according to fitting instructions.

I have an NH Pajero and also install brake controllers. There's a spot on the dash above your left knee that I have fit my own Voyager controller. It allows the correct angle for the controller to work properly, and is high enough out of the way not to hit your knee on it.

Hi Yonnee,

I think I know the spot you're referring to!

I'm thinking of installing it above the fuel release clip as there is a round button just above it into which the wiring loom could go through.

Exactly where I ran my wiring when I installed mine.

Oh, and to answer your original question, No, I can't be mounted "vertically" as you asked. Even though the unit is self levelling, it still has a pendulum device that senses deceleration, so it does require being level latitudinally.
