My daughter just rang to say that she followed an Excel through 100mm of water and when she got to the other side it conked out.
It finally stared again next morning, then a great cloud of black smoke then nothing.
NRMA man said that it was a common problem with magnas, ie water in through the air intake then into the cylinder, then bang
Has anyone had, or no of this problem.
Luckily its covered by insurance.
Regards Boo

Boo Boo,
A friend did the same thing in the floods down here a few months ago - she was piloting a Zafira (mini people mover) and the water wouldn't have been any deeper then 150mm - water wasn't to the bottom of the doors. She is adament that she was travelling slowly but 'conked out' half way through. She got towed out and the car wouldn't start.
Insurance have come to the party - but still waiting for a new engine. Major damage to piston, conrods and crank.

I've had a few cars in my time and they have all had the air intake fairly high up.
This magna, and i presume your friends car is only a few years old.
Where is their air intake? Surely not down low enough for water to enter when driving in depths of 150 or less!

Boo Boo,
Intake is almost the lowest point on the front spoiler - I suppose it's ok when we're the driest continent - but no good when it floods......

Sorry axle
My daughter was driving the magna behind the excel.
I suppose she should have driven her little Toyota and it would have been ok. LOL

I'm thankful the Pajero is MUCH better.
I was in
Canberra last when they had a downpour - I noticed a big puddle on the road so I slowed down - but obviously not enough - the bowwave went over the roof !
I checked the aircleaner box - not a trace of water.
The intake is just below the bonnet (and there was plenty of water at that height) but then there's the Cyclonic separator that really works.

Hi BOO BOO
You are not the only one whose daughter drove into water and we think wrote the our car off. Our daughter on her Ps went for a drive and was comming
home and the ferry was shut down due to rising water so decided to take a dirt road
home and the rain had meant there was water over the road she came to it walked it and thought she could get through but obviusly made a judgement call that was not backed up by her experience.
