Been keeping a low profile since Imove to Perth but a quick trip to Boyagin rock saw yet another flat.
No worries i thought get it fixed and get the plugs in the othr front tyre fixed properly.
NUH
they wouldnt fix the plugs coz they are too far into the sidewall
and my latest flat is one of or both interior rips also crown/sidewall
NON repairable
wel Ive got them at a place that does retreads and sidewall repais for a scond opinion.
Seems even innoccous punctures create far more internal damage
definitly wouldnt be recomending these tyres due to cost and no advantage in sidewall stenghth.
If it wasnt for dodgy sidwall repairs I would have spent a fortune
Thats about 7 puntures and 3 non repairable(by normal standard) sidwall damage

Fair dinkum tyres this tyres that none of those radials are worth SFA
coz that is exactly what you will get for them after 1 tiny stick goes through the sidewall

Dont dought how good they are
- only when compared to other adials
Just peed off I didnt re shoe the splits coz i moved to perth maybe that might be the go.
Radials reall arnt up to bush track work.
Fine for outback travel, deserts, well defined tracks.
Those simex just sound like anther over hyped landfill waiting to happen

Splits and rags for serious off road use in WA - no doubt about it.

Sorry to hear about your tyre woes.

All I can say is I have had 2 sets, heaps of off roading and no problems. I love em and will have em again.

Ditto 120

I have had 2 sets on my last 4X4 and a set on this one, so far one puncture that was a 4" piece of steel through tread and out the wall. Had it fixed and run it on my camper..

Sorry to hear you can't catch a break.

I on the otherhand have had a great run. I am on my second set and have 8 tyres all up with 5 for the car and 3 for the camper (oh and 2 carcases as spares) and have only had one flat on the camper and that was a slow leak when the tyre had around 65,000km on it. I opted to replace rather than repair due to very limited tread. I am soon about to reshoe the Patrol with my third set and will definately get the MTR's again.

I average around 65 -70,000km over 2-3 years a set with around 40% of that on unsealed roads.

Regards
David

Did you have the raised white lettering on the sidewall facing the outside of the tyre??

Davoe do you believe you are having a bad run with the MTR's or is it where you are taking them that is causing the damage, as unlike you the vast majority of those running them have relativley few issues? Having physically measured the sidewall thickness & seen the abuse they can take there's no doubt in my mind they are tougher than most.
Might be time to get away from a good all round offroad tyre & get some purpose built 14 ply bullet proof rags ;-)
Cheers Craig............
2 sets of MTR's.

I just dont think the paper like sidewall of a radial are suited to bush tracks.the treads are very strong but thesidewalls despite being prob best in class are just not up to anything other than well used tracks with no wood.
frustraing thing is one little stick and shows over for the tyre where as a rag tyre you patch the tube and alls good

G'day Davoe

I have just returned from the east coast and ran the rags this time there and back on the bitumen. They are a tad noisy!!
I still have a set of Eldorados in the garage but they have a number of plugs in them and are virtually U/S.(Eldorados also made in Cooper factories).

Since switching to MRF's I have had no punctures and have done a fair bit of bush driving. Will be going cross country again later in the year and we will se how the rags go there.

Cheers

kinda puts paid to the theory you cant drive long distaces/on bitumen with them.
I dont think the MTR would have lasted this long except i moved to perth. If you saw the track this one got stuffed on you would really wonder what they ARE made for then coz it isnt for leaving the bitumen

LOL ever since I've been visiting this Forum, Davoe's been telling us that this and that tyre will not stand up to any 'real' offroad work and the only reliable tyres are rags/crossplys for this type of work.

What in Heaven's name convinced you to use tissue paper thin tyres and go against everything you had been spouting for years ??????

ROFLMAO

the 'big smoke' is playing with your brain hahahahahahaha

phoned them today.
dmaged in 4 spots about $150 to repair so basically its stuffed.

From looking at it although a puncture may look innocous and require just a plug or 2 the damage and splitting/tearing on the inside of the tyre is often quite bad
