Just searching for info (track conditions, co-ordinates etc) from anyone who may have visited
Veevers Meteorite Crater recently. Also any similar info on the tracks and "cleared Lines" heading into the "yet to be re-discovered" Patience
Well off the
Gary Hwy. Not much info revealed in a search of the
forum (1 post mentioning Veevers and none for the
well) so I hope someone may have something. Thanks.
Mick.

Hi Mick
I visited Veevers Crater in 05. Finding the track off the Gary was the first obstacle and then the 13 or so km in was washed out in
places but easy to negotiate around the edges. UNfortunately I do not keep waypoints or Traek Notes.
Equinox might be able to help you on Patience
Well.
Cheers

Hi Mick,
Here's a quote from Carnegie:
“As I stood on the stony bank, I could see several natives smokes to the eastward. Determined to take advantage of any help extended to us by nature, to spare no pains in the all-important matter of finding
water, to let nothing pass that might assist us on our way, so that if it was our fate to go under in the struggle I should not be assailed by the thought that I had neglected opportunities, determined, in fact, always to act for the best, so far as I could see it, I decided to make use of this
sign of the presence of natives, and altered out course in consequence. We started due east and held that course for eight
miles…………..”
The key to finding the
well, is to find the stony banks first.
I have a photo looking east from these banks in my members gallery. I will reveal no more that I know of these, as I wish to find the
well myself.
I cannot offer much in the way of road conditions, but to say that the road to Patience
Well on the maps is in moderate condition in the vicinity of the
well on the maps. On that track there is a visitors book at 23 25.908S 125 31.823E.
The Patience Oil
Well Road is good.
I put a plot file of my search for the
well mid last year on this site.
Plot File
Good luck if you choose to have a look.
Sincerest regards
Alan

Mick haven't been there of recent years but we found the turn off to Veevers reasonably easy just using the Great Desert Hema maps. From memory the 28 km's south to the turn off from the abandoned
well was pretty close and the
cleared line on the West side became obvious as we approached. The track in was pretty obscure and rough but not challenging in any way. The Hema map coordinates of 22:58'10"S & 125:22'21"E were also close as
well.
Many of the tracks & cleared lines in that area have had suckers grow up them making it almost impossible to drive on but a route off to the side was always available.
We didn't attempt to drive to Patience
well although we did start out on that track to the
Rocky Outcrop which was very obvious.
Cheers Craig..............

Hi Mick O
we visited Veevers in june last year and found the turn off to Veevers quite easily, heading north from the Gunbarrell. The track into Veevers is easy, there is only 2
sand dunes and you may not even need to lock hubs on a cool day. We didnt actually look for Patience
Well but the roads from
Gary Junction heading south were surprisingly
well maintained (maybe by a mining company in that area) and just past the turn to veevers the maintained road veered off to the East. We didnt go out there but I thought at the time it would be going close to the area of Patience
well. We had a great trip, it really is great country out there , Best of luck and enjoy. ( I think Hema Maps Have coords for Veevers T/O)
