have found the answer to my own question...does have the blue tick ...but not covered under a phone plan....must be an outright purchase instead...found a few less than positive comments under a google search...might be unfair to it

Some phones seem to work OK some places and not others ??

As for blue tick !! I think the only reason they get a blue tick is the ability to connect an external aerial..........if you only want it as a handheld phone....go for any of them !!

I only wanted one for making calls in the scrub......but will wait another 6 months and see if it all gets sorted..

I got an LG550...why??.....don't know.....just seemed the best at the time ?????

It's a total minefield Gronk. Just been brousing a few sites and found some interesting reviews on c-net. The main problem is the conflicting reports you read. The lg you got received a good review. Rated 7.8. It is hard to get a handle on what they rate the phone on. I just want to make phone calls and don't want all the other stuff. Maybe I'm just getting old and want a phone with a dial you turn round.

Gronk, do you find the 'ascending' ring tone on the LG TU550 annoying?
It makes it very easy to miss calls, ruins an otherwise good phone.

Yes the ascending ring tone is a pain ( especially as I'm 1/2 deaf ), but I had them set it up so it will ring all day until the other end hangs up ( took 3 tries to get it right by Telstra though !! )

And I put the loudest ringtone I could find on ( made my own....."ring..ring " how original eh ??? )

next g hasnt been around 5 years.
i was told this and didnt think much of it.
My missus changed hers to 30 seconds and a while back it reverted back to 15 seconds (PITA when ringing her)
from asking around it seems it could be a bit of a random thing

No but GSM has - longer iirc.
