Is the tuner in the DVD recorder analogue or digital? That could be the problem.

DVD into the tv would bypass the tuner and go straight in the input ports.

What sort of cable are you using to connect them?

U shouldnt have to tune the TV into the recorder
It should be plugged into one of your AV inputs on the TV and will give a good picture.
NEVER run it thru the tuner. If your TV has HDMI or Component inputs they will be best by far. YOu do need specialist cables for both however.

Shold be using the yellow, red, and white ported audio cables output from the recorder to inputs of the TV. Is that what you are doing?

It shouldn't be anything to do with the formatting of the DVD disk, just wether you have the system switching properly I would have thought.

Shouldn't really look at Composite video these days John, that should be one of the last options if other output types aren't available (which they probably are)....

DVD is Analogue... I haven't seen a Digital tuner in a DVD yet.

That is why the picture is a little poorer.

Dunco I reckon that'd be it mate, it would explain much we ended up concluding the antenna was part to blame , raised it a couple of inches and its a whole lot better but your on the money it cant be as good as its analogue, once again I'm in the forumites debt,
thank you all ,

Is this DVD a copied one from the recorder? Copy protection, whilst looking ok on the TV initially, may cause fuzziness and make the DVD unusable....just a thought.

I take it the DVD recorder is the non-HDMI version? (DVDR3480/05)

The first way to set up a Dvd recorder and a TV of any sort is to run the Aerial into the RF IN on DVD recorder and then connect the AV OUT of the DVD to any of the AV IN on the TV. That way you tune the dvd to the stations and just use the AV selected on the TV
The other way is to connect the aerial to the RF in on the DVD and then from the RF out to the TV and then tune the stations on the TV as well as using the above method. If you use the first you can record as well as watch but ONLY THE CHANNEL U R WATCHING
If you add the second u can record one channel and watch another
The DVD RECORD function has nothing to do with picture quality on the TV or are u referring to the quality of a recorded image.
A bit of an obscure post there.
By connecting up the second way the DVD is just a pass thru for the aerial and shouldnt make any degradation of picture. Check your cables and connections and orientation of your aerial
