Gunbarrel Highway Feedback

We will be doing the Gunbarrel Hwy in May/June. Like feedback on the different camping sites - will be towing a campertrailer after upgrading from a tent.
Cheers Derek.

You would need to tell us if you are going along the original GBH, via Carnegie Stn or Along the re-alighned GBH, now called the Great Central Hw. May/ June should be OK but check for late rains. Camper trailer along the GCH, no problems, if you take the original GBH it will depend on ground clearance of your camper trailer. There are a few rough sections and some deep wash-aways. There are no designated camp sites, as far as I know, except at Warburton and Giles road house. Just pick your spot along the way

George, Thank you for your reply. We have a Defender 2007 and an Ultimate trailer. Travelling the GBH via Carnegie station starting this section at Warburton. Do you know if the abanded section between Warakurna RH and Jackie Junction is open and also have you travelled this section.

Cheers Derek

Hi Derek, Yes I have travelled that section on 4 different ocassions, the last time about 9 months ago. With your set-up you should have no problems. Just check on the weather before you set off. If you get rain, more than 5mm, you could be stuck for anything from 1 to 14 days. So go prepared with extra supplies. You need to get a permit from the Central Lands Council

Try Mingol Camp - old drovers stop with stove table and iron shelter - even iron beds for the true adventurer in you.

Mingol is maybe 180 km east of Wiluna. Lots of water, birds and many camp sites under shade. Large area and long walks.

Carnegie offered fairly spartan rooms at $40 per person in July 2007. The managers were about to leave at that time. So don't know current situation.

Diesel is available there and supplies were - but for any supplies, you need to ring them a full week ahead with your list of needs so that they can be brought out on the Friday mail truck.

Best regards
Chris
