Just wondering if anyone has travelled on the GEH in the last couple of days? Are the fires out or are they still smouldering?

I haven't travelled it but 7 hours ago the DEC declared the fire safe.

So has Main Roads WA but I think they act on advice from DEC

This site has GEH as currently closed but could re-open on 4/12/2008. Probably an error :))

drive it at night the smouldering trees can look pretty speccy after a fire has been through

My two elder sons live in Kalgoorlie, as I did for many years. They say that shortages occurred due to the GEH being closed and trucks not being able to get through. I asked myself what happened to good old rail transport? Was this closed as well. I didn't hear of any rail closer due to the fire??????

It's open travelled from Kalg to Sth X and back yesterday. All fires are out and it's safe to drive.
