One for the locals.....is the sand hard enough for a camper trailer to be taken onto the beach?

Hi Member No 1, You could take it on to the beach no problem. But you would need a D10 Dozer to get it back off of the beach again. Sand on the beach proper is quite soft here, there is an area behind the dunes still on firm ground ok for camper. Also from the beach proper to get back to the track between the beach and the dunes there is usually an embankment up to 18 inches to get back up and over, hard enough just with vehicle. I am referring to the beach entrance about 2/3 of the way down the beach towards Swincers Rocks. Not sure about the ramp, would still say it is too soft.
You may be ok on the track that runs paralell between beach proper and front of dunes. Entrance 2/3 along beach from behind dunes.
Good Luck, Peter

To answer the original question......... depends on what type of 4x4 you have.... If it's a Nissan; no worries. However, if it's toy-mota; forget it!! ;-))

heck MN1 im a west ausssie and ive been there a couple of times.
No doubt it is different to 10-15 years ago but if you go past the main landing heading south you can camp off the beacjh overlooking a nice beach which is sheltered. if the waether is calm just wade out to kneee deep and burly up for nice Gar.
My favourite spot however (I had A 2wd) was the southern end of the dushole beach sighnposted as formby bay. from the carpark you can walk south to a shorbreak beach 9no good for fishing) or it is a decent walk Nth along the clifftops to the beach where if you walk another 500m-1k you can usually find good gutters.
It USED to be the one place on the YP where you could go and not be packed in (usually no one there)
