Hi Smudger,

You will find that your satphone is roaming on GSM even with a Next G SIM card. Be mindfull of different call rates etc though. You will find that it won't make Satellite calls though as the SIM card is not / or can not be linked to the Satellite account.

A Next G SIM card will work in any modern (last 5-6 years or so) GSM phone that operates a 3.3V SIM card.

We have done this a few times for customers who have upgraded to Next G from CDMA but wanted to keep their old carkit (Nokia CK-7WS). So they got an old Nokia 6610 GSM phone (or similar) to put the Next G SIM card in and it all works fine.

Regards
David

The Motorola 9500 is a sat phone and won't work on a GSM network. You will find sticking the sim in will allow you to make calls on via sat but at expenve call rates.
