Looking at the "Kimberley" publication by Ron and Viv Moon, there appears to be access to the river about halfway between the Ord River Dam Wall and Kununurra. But I cant find a track on any of the maps that I have for Ozi Explorer. Does anyone have any info or waypoints for this track?

Thanks,

Val

Val

In the book on page 109 is the map that the canoe trek text refers to. The Crossing Falls location is where the gorge section ends and the flat water begins. This is why the long section from the dam is recommended for two days (with the current) and another day for the much shorter section to Kununurra. If you let me know your email I will send you a page with the track to crossing falls marked on it.

I have done the tour boat trip down the ord from the wall to Kununurra but not canoe but may next time.

Cheers

Leigh

Val,

My knowledge is about 35 years out of date, but about 5-10 km out of town, towards Katherine, there's a turn-off to the right, that goes into the racecourse.

It is/was situated beside the waters of the Diversion Dam. Nice spot, but not half way, so maybe there's another road further up, or on the opposite side of the River?

Hooroo,

Do you mean the diversion dam near Kununurra or Lake Argyle?

Download Google Earth and then have a look. All tracks are clearly defined

Willem,

I mean between Lake Argyle and Kununurra - along the section that is used for canoe trips. Could not see the particular access track referred to in the Moon's book in Google Earth.

Hi Val

It has been a long time(1981) since I have been there but look around 16.01.26 South and 128.46.43 East to find a track which leads off the Victoria Hwy/Lake Argyle Road over a rise and follows a creek down a valley to the Ord River. There is also a faint turnoff to your left off this track(16 01 07S and 128 46 25E) which takes you to a small pass in the hills named as Duracks Folly. There is a grave on the side of the track as well. It might be a bit overgrown or even fenced off now. We managed to drive up and along there in the MQ Patrol but it was overgrown then and rough in places. We did get to the Ord River but had to walk a short distance as I recall.

Good luck

Cheers

Thanks Willem,
That is the track - I was hoping someone might have some recent info or even a track file?

Cheers,

Val
