Check your exhaust is tightened to the back of the turbo properly.

I too had a terrible squealing noise from under the bonnet.

First I thought the TURBO

Looked again and It was that tensioner
I'll rip off the tensioner, to put a new bearing on it..

Everything is in the wrong place with that Nissan tensioner, but in 1 hr got it off, rattled it ,, felt good, ,, sprayed Inox all over and in the thing, and put it back on, only to find that the noise came back in 10 minutes.

So much for being a legend !

Turned out to be the belt.
New belt on,,after 1 week that squeal came back again , put the old belt back on ,,, and presto no noise, ever again ( 20 months later )

You tell me ?

But you have to check out these things, yourself, and ask around.

Pay a mechanic, and they will charge like "wounded bull".

my theory ,, the belt was tired,, needed a rest !
Cant think of anything else

Cheers

Sometimes I reckon it's good to be a bit deaf.....I start hearing these noises and I turn my hearing aids off - problem goes away :-)))
