Like many others, I've suffered from various grey power ailments over time.

But the one that really knocks me around, is sinus. The head is almost permanently clogged up and my sense of balance is off. It seems to be getting worse, especially on trips.
I've tried all the health remedies that I can handle.

It's a sod of a thing when your balance is off and you're driving...you really should be at home I rekkon.

What have other sufferers found to be effective ?

A good bottle of red helps.
If unavailable, a bad bottle will do the trick.
It actually never fixes what ails me, but somehow it doesn't seem to matter.

Yeah, a bottle of Red is a good anti histamine but I had to give it away some time ago as it aggravates my Gout.....bugger. The Sulphur dioxide preservative in the wine also triggers asthma.....bugger again!!!!!...lol

A bad bottle of red could be the cause of what ails you Smudger.

Red wine makes me stuffy in the nose and I snore my head off like a chainsaw. Anyone need firewood cut!

When I worked on the tools (chippy) I used to suffer like you wouldn't believe. I used to get congestion right down to my teeth and when I blew my nose it was like dragging rope out of my cheeks. Used to also get headaches like no bodies business. Found that Sinutabs work but staying away from dust as much as possible is the best. Recently had my nose rebored and I had to snort a saline solution and boy does that stuff clear out the sinuses and everything else.
Give the saline solution a go it's dirt cheep and works a treat. A bit messy and some may think gross but hey it works. Now I can breath, very few headaches (unless red wine induced) and very rarely blocked. And. Most importantly no sinus pain.

After I had my nose cleaned out by an Ear Nose and Throat specialist he told me to do the same thing. Whenever I find the symptoms arriving I make up a solution of about 3/4 teaspoon of pure rock salt in 250 mils boiling water. LET IT COOL TO BLOOD TEMP then snort it up your nostrils and blow it out. The first couple of times you may heave a bit but you get used to it.

Similar benefits can be had by swimming in salt water - you always seem to get the stuff up your nose :)

Use a syringe it's easier to stick up your nose and squirt than sticking your whole heads in a bowl.

Nah, just use a glass and dip your nose in and snort. Don't be a sissy!

To use the salt solution: you can buy Neti pots at some alternative and natural health outlets. These are like a little 'tea' pot designed to do just that job. It may make life easier.

Footloose,

I had chronic sinusitus, not loss of balance but always congested, pressure in that area etc.

I went to a ENT specialist, had x-ray, cat scan etc. Acute sinusitus in the Maxillary and Ethmoidal sinus cavities. Had surgery called Functional endoscopic sinus surgery or FESS.

I can now breathe the feeling is amazing. No more snot. It has taken a good three months post the surgery for all the sninus congestion to clear but I am now feeling great. Stopped snoring, sleeping better and feeling better.

I also had to irrigate with a saline solution, whilst it is an unpleasant experience it surely clears out the muck.

Would recommend seeking advice or consult from ENT specialist.

Good luck with it.

Steve

Hi Footie,

I'm another sinus sufferer, and I am too going to vote for FESS, I first was prescribed this when pregnant with one of the kids and I couldn't take my normal medication - this stuff is fantastic, and I'm not prone to using nasal sprays - infact I hate them, but I can tolerate FESS and it works quickly. My dad has also used it and has found it very helpful.

Apart from that, steam, steam and more steam in the morning when I first get up, a packet of sudafed and some FESS in my bag and I can get through the day.

cheers

Lyn

I'd thought I"d just point out that the FESS I"m talking about isn't surgery it's a nasal spray that is an isotonic saline nasal solution, give it a try, works for me.
