I intend to travel the Strzelecki Track and onto the Gammon Ranges this June-I know this is a long shot but does anyone know when they grade the track or is the timing "pot" luck? (just trying to avoid major corrugations if possible). Also need to hire some sort of reliable communications-has anyone hired an iridium phone ,from where, how much etc. Thanks a lot.

I travelled this road in June/July & the track was being graded then. It was a highway
From the turnoff to the gammon ranges it was a bit ordinary but not what I would call corrugated.
Have a good trip.

Those "tracks" are not known for corrugations - well maintained. Its the "highways" like the Anne Beadell and the Gunbarrel you have to worry about :-)))

How very true!
Any "highway" in Australia that isn't tarred deserves respect :)

I travelled the Strzelecki last week, I averaged 75 km per hour as I was worried about a rock hitting the back window of the GXL from the camper.

Other than that the road wasn't that bad in most places, when it was good it was good but when it was bad well.

I had a blow out on the camper about 100 km out of Innamincka and had no spare until Marree.

I also had great reception on my Globalstar Sat phone all the way (yes believe it or not).

If you drive carefully you will have no troubles.

Cheers Steve.
