Greetings touring guru's!
We are flying from Karratha into Bris-vegas in early March 08 and driving up to FNQ eventually flying out of Cairns early April .Our question is should we go for a Britz 4wd camper or a van/truck style motorhome ? We were thinking of a scenery based relaxed trip up there and being Qld virgins are not sure if the landcruiser style camper would be overkill .The only 2 stops we really have to make are Buderim and Hervey bay for a few coldies and apart from that we would value any suggestions and/or advice you may wish to give us from your experience.
Cheers from the Norwest!

You don't really need a 4wd for that trip, so I would go for something that is fuel effiicient, providing it had the comforts you would like
Diesel $1.399 lt today in Townsville but who knows in April
Country should be nice and green at that time as we are getting a normal wet season at last
You will love it up this way, enjoy
Cheers Ray

Fraser Island would be worth a day trip from Hervey Bay or if your stop at Buderim gives you access to a 4wd then take a run up the Beach from Noosa north Shore. no need for a 4wd really for most of the trip. If you have a motor home it will allow you to stop just about anywhere. Murray Falls behind Cardwell and Cape Healsborough near Mackay were a couple of nice spots when we last travelled 2 years ago.

Having just driven and lived in a 4 berth motor home for 2 wks touring the Sth Island of NZ I'd recommend them anytime. They are an excellent mode of transport and dead easy to drive and use.

For places like Fraser Is just do a day or couple of day trips out of Harvey Bay or Noosa. We've done 2 trips that way and are an excellent way to get the feel of the place.

How many people?
If 2, the camper is plenty of room.

Just the 2 of us making the trip . When we camp in our neck of the woods you really need a 4wd to get anywhere scenic but if you all reckon most places are 2wd accessable then maybe the motorhome's extra comfort will be the go!
