Hi
I know there has been a bit of talk on this matter. However, I am having my 2004 V8 Landcruiser fitted with a vapour injection system next week.
I have a snorkel fitted, would that make any difference , good bad or otherwise to the systems performance.

I am a bit apprehensive about LPG as about 2 years ago I had a "mixer ' LPG system fitted and it kept backfiring and caused damage to the airbox ( and my pocket). The installer did not know what caused it, so it was taken of.

Any comments on this matter is appreciated
Regards

Norm - is that in place of the main tank?

I'd be keen to do mine too, but would prefer the scuba approach where they strap them along the chassis rails (as they can in the 4.5l 100 Series) - but I understand that's not available in the V8...

LPG tank replaces the sub tank ( approx. 43 ltrs petrol ). Still has the main approx 90 ltrs)
Yes that is correct on the latter 100 series cannot go under side chassis.

Hi Norm,
I have my 2005 V8 fitted with SVI gas.
Very very happy. I also have a snorkel (Safari).
When the snorkel was fitted (after gas installation) I noticed that engine smoothness was even better.
A word of advice..if you have a Toyota tow bar that was fitted at time of initial purchase you may need to replace it with one that was manufactured after late 2004. The reason being the gas tank mounts won't fit properly with the earlier version EOM tow bar. I only found this out by chance as when I had mine converted and friend of mine also had his 2003 done at the same time at the same place. Mine being the later model had no problem with the gas tank installation and the EOM tow bar but when it came to his the tank just wouldn't fit with his EOM tow bar. Eventually he had to take it off and install one (EOM) manufactured from 2005.
If you want any further info feel free to let me know.

Hi Craig
I have a Hayman Reese bar. Good to hear the the snorkel has a positive effect, I also have a Safari.
Did you install a flash lube kit or is it put on as part of the installation.

I am not sure about the system you are getting. Mine is a few years old with a regulator and when I had the snorkel fitted I was advised a balance tube would need to be fitted as well. I tried it without the balance tube and the engine would stall when coasting. Fitted the balance tube myself and no problems due to the snorkel since.

The balance tube fits onto a fitting that was already on the regulator and connect to the outside filter part of the air box. I just used a piece of heater hose and a plastic fitting which fitted snugly into the hole I drilled into the air box.

Like I said I am not sure about the system you are getting fitted and whether or not it needs or has provision for a balance tube.

Hi Lloyd,
Yours would be the older venturi system from your description. Comparing yours to the svi is like comparing carburettor to fuel injection. SVI (sequential vapour injection) is run by its own computer system making thousands of adjustments every second. It does not experience problems with snorkels the you have mentioned.

Thanks for the info Craig.

Maybe I need to upgrade to one of those systems.

I have the occasional backfore problem. It seems to do it a lot more often when the wife is driving the car though.

I've virtually eliminated backfiring on my LPG V8 Disco by not allowing her to coast downhill on the engine brake. Either brake to slow her down, or if you want to use engine brake, switch over to petrol.

I have a 2004 100 series V8 and the local Toyota dealer who I know quite well advised me that the V8's are not suitable to go on gas
