$300,000....?? For a group of "volunteers" to rebuild
the hut??
That would have to be the most expensive cattleman's hut in the world..??
Next they'll be taking bookings and closing it all off to all except paying tour groups.
I'm not against them rebuiding the various huts, but that does sound ridiculous....unless I've missed something?
Cheers,
Mark

All extremely valid points, infact I asked in the other thread if there will be detailed costings available to the public on where 300k went.
apparently they had "Consultants" involved in the process... why I have no idea!

Craigs Hut is not a "real" cattlemans hut is it ?
It was a movie prop.
$300k including consultants to rebuild . . . sorry , sounds like a bit of personal pocket lining going on.

Craig's Hut is a movie prop that you can drive to (almost) in a 2wd.
Not sure what the big deal is.

Consultants?? Consultants??
Since when has the former Bracks or current
Brumby government even considered using consultants??
And of course they would never consider changing their policy now to use consultants would they??
(Sorry its all sarcasm if you have not gathered)
This labour government should be shot for the amount of money spent (Wasted) on consultants.

Bloody disgrace a hut that's not even a real cattlemens, should be 300k to rebuild.
Have a look at Razorback or Upper Jamison hut or Binderee, Tomahawk or Stones outstation, any of the other real huts.

is it Upper Jamo thats been half a dozen poles sticking up for years now? They could have thrown $20k at that to finish it.

Would you have liked to have seen it NOT rebuilt at all. 300K may seem a bit steep, but the alternative would be no Craigs Hut at all.
Something to think about for the people who have been there. And, most of the huts have been added on to and rebuilt at some stage. Have a looks at
Lovick's Hut,
The Bluff and any number of others that have been damaged by fire or time over the years.

None of them had 10's of thousands spent on them, let alone 100k's...

Do 50k couldnt have been spent & a hut erected? Im sure you have heard of Golden Point hut, is that being rebuilt for 300k? I doubt it.

Why would you want to rebuild it anyway??
As has been said its a movie prop for $hit sake, it has no historical significance its just "Make Believe"

I went up over
The Bluff last week and there has certainly been some work on
the hut restoration. Same for Lovicks. In fact there was a bloke working on
the hut at the time and he was (I think) an employee of the Lovick's, working up there, doubling as support for one of the horse riding tours.
I certainly didn't see evidence of government funds being wasted up there...just a bloke with a chainsaw........ Might take a couple of years for them to be finished.
Cheers,
Mark

Gentlemen, The word to sum up the discussion is TOURISM. The outlay to rebuild it will be recouped in tourism dollars for the region. You may think that a lot of money has been wasted, and knowing how governments work you are probably right, but in the end the incomes of local businesses will be boosted and that is a good thing.
