Hey all,

Just doing bit of research i'm comparing two fridges at the moment. Engel and Primus. I know the Engels are good but i was wondering if anyone had any experience with the 40l Primus. Part number 591540. Just seeing what people say.

I'm not going to consider a Waeco so no one needs to mention them.

I suggest you have a look in the Archives on this site.

There you should find at least 10,000 fridge related questions

i posted a report on a comparison between waeco, engel and primus about a couple of weeks or so ago which was performed by an independent tester and it came up very well.

I put up a thread about the Primus fridge/freezer and only got a couple of responses. You won't find much at all about these. Not very popular.
They looked ok, and the place I looked had one for $860 with a transit bag, but as I could not get much info I decided to go the Waeco way again.
Had two issues with our 50L and both times it was fixed under warranty without question. Bought our 40L at BCF with a 15% discount off both the Fridge and Transit bag $899(they were on special).

If you are adamant about not buying the Waeco, then you're only real choice is the Engel. There is quite a lot of feedback on here to look through about these.

Happy fridge hunting.

Mattie,

Yeah I did read your post. In my response above I say nothing of test results.

For your info, I can disregard anything I want. People post replies to others threads all the time, and some of the info is disregarded. So what. That is the person who asked the question/s prerogative.
If we were to buy every product someone suggests then we would all be broke.

One person's opinion or one test result doesn't mean that the product is the best, and all and sundry should go out and buy it.

Yes I ask what others opinions are, and will usually take all into consideration. I even ring people whom I know have a lot more experience than I and ask their opinion, even if it is in another state and I search on the Internet (Primus had nothing about these fridges on their website when I looked).
Previous experience with a product, service and spare parts availability are also considerations. But ultimately it is my choice to buy whatever product I please, and as long as I am happy with my purchase/s and it does the job I require of it, then that is all I care about.

And by the way, take the caps lock off when you type.

Greg

if you aren't prepared to believe the post and you were genuinely trying to find out how well built and quality of compressor components etc...... find out the brand of compressor etc.. used in the primus fridge for your self because you won't believe anyone else, then ask a reliable refrigeration sparky and check the reliability of components before disregarding the fridge you never know it may surprise you!!! and then again it may not.
I have seen the test results(the test results are not here say, if you wanted i will ask the person if he would let me post the results or email you a copy if you are interested, as i will be catching up with him next month) and if i was not prepared to spend the money to buy a trail blazer or replace the fridge i now have (a bush boy made in melbourne which is a long way from where we are now, and there are probably many other fridges in this price bracket that are good as well)i would purchase the primus over the waeco and engel
sorry about the upper case its all the same to me so long as you are able to understand it.

So what do you believe is the good point/s with the Primus fridge

Why not compare the one I can't mention or National Lunar or a heap of other brands.
How does Primus get a look in when the more serious brands miss out ??

I'm a little lost here Mainey.

What is the fridge you can't mention?

If you can't post it here Mate, PM me the brand and reason, you've got my interest.

Not one distributed by your "close friend" Ozi is it LOL.

Cheers,

Jim.

Jim,

I think Mainey "can't mention the brand" because of andyroos comments in the original question:

"I'm not going to consider a Waeco so no one needs to mention them."

LOL!!

Ive been very happy with my Waeco 50L no problems at all. I often use it as a freezer.I bought the extra battery as well as the carry bag and the wiring system that goes straight to the battery and avoids current loss. It's a good system, you can recharge the battery from the engine by day and it runs the fridge overnight.

We have a Bushman - 32 ltr with extended lid which makes it 40 ltr(I think) - anyway plenty big enough for us - never let us down in any weather - never lost a thing in it - very reliable - comes complete with cover, baskets etc - we got it from Carac here in Melbourne - pretty reasonable price.
