Morning all,
Which is the bypass filter on a TD 4.2 (Nissan 4.2 turbo diesel). I think it is the one closest to the fire wall though not sure.

Cheers

Not too sure what you mean by by-pass, as the oiling system is a full-flow one, however, if you mean the anti-drain back valve, well that is in the front filter and the rear filter (the Z9 type),only has the anti-restriction valve which serves to re-direct the oil flow if that filter becomes restricted.

Desert,
Both have anti drain back valves. The bypass filter is a fine filter when loaded bypasses and the standard filter stays in line. I think its specified for the turbo.

You're probably right, blue-one, the two filters possibly do have different micron ratings although how to confirm this I don't know. All I know is that the expensive one (front) is difficult to get at a cheap price (after market included), and I run a Ryco Z9 for the rear filter, due to cost. It does not have the drain back valve but because the filters are in-line, there is no ill effect. Previous GQ's can run with two Z9's, which is the same as a Z115 but at 5 bucks cheaper for each filter!

When you say same as z115, the z115 is a nissan non bypass filter , and the z9 is made for ford and others like toyota landcruiser, which has a bypass valve inside. there is no reason why you cant run z9's, where z115's go, but not the other way round.... with two bypass filters, you get twice the bypass if the filter blocks, with none,(nissan filter on ford) you get no flow if it blocks.
