The 08 WRANGLER diesel now boasts 470nm and am wondering if my 07 (400nm) can be "flashed" by the dealership, or am I going to have to pay >1000 big ones for a DP or similar upgrade?

Try here
http://www.tdc-technologies.com/
A good number of Terracan CRDi owners have these with good effect. Easy to install yourself and a lot cheaper than the locally available units. Also adjustable to the power level you feel comfortable living with. Comes pre-set at about 50% extra...seems most go for an extra ten to twenty percent on that.
Hint: ask for extended leads...just makes it easier to position in the engine bay.
A tad over $Au300 depending on the exchange rate.
Quick delivery...10 days...Germany to US to Oz.

Thanks Brad, it seems almost too good to be true. The local products seem to require a tech to fit to the Wrangler.

Can't give you any figures but have run my tdc Terracan against a normal Terra ( a properly conducted
test ) and the diff was considerable..
Along the flat.....hardly any diff but as soon as we got to a small
hill it pulled away that noticeably you would think the other bloke had missed a gear !!

Thanks for the tip DIO, specs/price look too good to be true. The vm motori site indicates that this engine is used in other OZ vehicles incl Holden and Hyundai

Number One...trust me...it works.
I was initially impressed with the 2.9 diesel motor two years ago...now it really does feel like a petrol motor to the point where I'm not to keen to adjust it too much above the standard 50% setting until I get used to the extra power. What little turbo lag there was is nearly all gone.
A very cheap option for the amount of boost you get.

Thanks Brad, the vm motori web site indicates that the engine is common to Oz Holden and Hyundai vehicles even though it is an Italian co but is actually in partnership with or owned by Detroit Diesel which is in turn a division of GM....a truly world engine as they claim the only question is will it '"click" into my rig or do I need a tech? Is there a local rep if there is a prob?

I do not know about the Jeep but any GM engine can be programmed via the ECM. I am sure the Jeep can too but it is a matter of availability of programmers. It is easy to get stuff for GM (including the TechII - did not try to get an OZ software pack though - only US) Increasing power can be done with various means but does not mean that you get more torque automatically. It is likely that the gearing has changed also and in case of an auto may need an upgrade depending on hp increase.
go and
check out the US boards. there is plenty of info
have fun

Ta gmd, the wrangler is a vm motori engine owned by/partner with Detroit Diesel a division of GM and there are so many chip producers its difficult to work out who is best in the long run

EFI Live is the best programmer in my book ..
I have a Diablo Sport Predator for my Sierra but the Efi
is not available for Jeep as far as I know .. only V8s and a few 6 cyclinder engines. Personally I would always prefer the direct programming of the ECM and not use an add on chip and control box which messes with things around the ECM... but thats just me I guess ...
check the linits of your transmission .. I know of a few people running the programmer on +120hp and killing the tranny with it .. not on the Jeep though
good luck

The Wrangler diesel is not avbl in the USA, they don't get the choice but that surely wont be for much longer, so at this stage its europe or oceania for flash/chip supplies it seems....
