Just thinkng ahead of time about where to
camp on the way
home from Buckys - victoria...wonthaggi - in a week or so....leaving his place what ever day it will be and gonna spend ONE NIGHT somewhere in the
vic high country area before heading back to good ol' Nowra.....hopefully wanting to avoid
Canberra if its possible....we dont get along with the roads there!!
so where is somehwere good thats free and pretty quiet but real nice...???? I have looked at a few
places and got a few in mind but want to know thoughts.....if we can avoid
Canberra on the way

How far off the main drag do you want to go? Not sure what is difficult about avoiding
Canberra. My reply is based on getting off the main drag just far enough to get away from it all, but not too far that you spent too much extra time travelling - and sticking to the coast for the journey
home. If you want to go over the top and hit the Hume, then there are many more options.
Perhaps consider Bally Hooley
Camping Area in the Southern end of
Snowy River National Park - just out of
Buchan. This is approx 40km off the
Bruthen - Nowa Nowa road which is now the quickest road when heading up the Princes Highway.
For even less of a detour, consider Fairy Dell, about 15km to the left off the road from Bairnsdale to
Bruthen. It is signposted, but you'll need your binocs to see it. Keep you eyes peeled around Wiseleigh, 3km shy of
Bruthen.

Dont care how far off the main drag we are as long as it doesnt make driving the big thing.....
Will have a good look at that Bally Hooley area....cheers....

G'day
Laura
There's a lovely shady
free camp at Araluen but that might be too close to
home?

Sorry can't help with your camping question. Just wanted to offer personal triva, I was born and went to school in Wonthaggi.
Hope you enjoy your stay.

my suggestion, head north from
Buchan past Gelantipy and take the track to
Little River Gorge, cross the Snowy at McKillops
Bridge and
camp on the Deddick River off McKillops Road. Or if the campsites at the
bridge are quiet then
camp there. Then pop out via
Delegate,
Bombala, Candelo to get
home. A bit of driving but through some nice country.

Hi
Laura
On way back turn off past sale and head to
Dargo area camping at
Talbotville.
Head out via
Dargo high plains , Ht Hotham and perhaps
Omeo.
This route has the lot and offers as much 2wding or 4wding as anybody can handle.

You can also head north from
Talbotville and tap into the
Blue Rag Range track, that's some good driving and
views.
