Has anyone had a good look at amazegps (www.amazegps.com)? Works on a wide variety of mobile phones with bluetooth gps, gives voice turn by turn directions, recalculates the route when you miss a turn. Potentially heavy on data, so an unlimited data plan is prefereable, but is absolutely free! Haven't tried off road routes but seems to cover all the places in Qld that I have been recently. It is still under development, maybe an opportunity to put in some useful suggestions.

We us TomTom Mobile 6 on our phones.

Have a look at SMART COMM GPS fantastic, costs $40.00 and turns you phone into a full handheld GPS....you can even load Ozi Explorer maps into it.
