can someone tell me if the nissan alternator on my 2000 gu 4.2 td charges at idle. i have a volt gauge that drops its display at idle, but as soon as the revs increase its ok.
hoping to hook up a relay up to the alternator, and don't want it to turn on at idle. to put it another way i want it to drop out at idle.
cheers shane.

The alternator will charge at idle.
What are you trying to achieve ?
There are other ways to control circuits.

Derek.

Sounds scary.
Perhaps use a micro switch on the throttle.

thanks, did you get the problem sorted with the tyre monitor not picking up the far side of the trailer/caravan that Roachie was on about a few months ago? i am interested in this system for my van but am concerned about this.

Yes, used a metal valve extender.

If the voltage drops below 13.6 volts at idle then the Alternator is not charging.
My Pajero 3.2 Diesel can put out 25 amps at idle.
