Do we need a special license to drive a 4wd? Perhaps not. How about a simple
test, before Bill Bogan gets into the driver's
seat?
Naturally since Bill ain't too good at readin, writing or stuff like that, the
test might have to be a spoken one. .
True or false
1. A 4wd can go anywhere
2. The faster you drive a 4wd, the better it goes.
3. 4wds don't fall over because they have more stability.
4. 4wds have better brakes so can be driven more quickly than cars.
5. There are no water hazards that 4wds can't cross.
6. When you drive off the tar, a seatbelt is not necessary.
7. A 4wd bull bar is for making the car in front move out of your way.
8 When driving a 4wd off the tar, it is better to go faster so that you miss hitting wild life.
9. A 4wd has enough power to tow anything.
10 4wds are far more comfortable to drive than most cars. That's why they make ideal mum's taxis.
11. Diesel 4wds are cheaper to run than petrol 4wds.
12. 4wds have bull bars and big tyres to make them look sexy.
13. 4wds should never make sudden shifts in direction at speed.
14. Most "rollover" accidents with 4wds occur on sand dunes.
15.The best accessory for a 4wd is a sticker.

How about a special licence for mothers over thirty who drop there kids off at the school drop off . This special licence would have some road rules on the back so they could remember maybe at least one . Sheeesh .

I agree. And I used to fight them by bringing the
police in to
police the school
parking zones.
It wasn't only the mums but the occasional dad also.
4wds and 2wds.
Some were just dangerous but many made it suicidal for the kids to cross the road.
We had several fatals. Any more fighting words ? :)))))))

I'm not sure that some of the ladies on this
forum wouldn't consider that a bit sexist :((
I've seen some excellent women 4wders, sadly my wife isn't one of them .

Funny. I recon my wife handles out LC much better then many men in Toorack Tractors. To completely stop once and forever any hysteria about 4WD I know very simple solution. All cars regardless of what they can do but with GVM greater then certain point (say 1.8 ton) must be manual diesels. Then only those who need them will buy them. He-he-he. Pity never happens though.

A bit sexist????? I was trying for a lot.
No, seriously, I know many woman are better drivers than men, but it does say at the top that some sense of humour is required.
Women should be better drivers than men because after they clean the house,
cook and wash the clothes, all thier spare time can be spent driving around gaining valuable experience.

Hey Footloose
Wouldn't saying that the more extreme "don't have a sense of humour" be classed as sexist?
Welcome to the target.

Footy!!! The apple cart's getting a bit lopsided...
We have 2 4WD's (4Runner and AWD Cross8 wagon). Solved the issue of mum dropping the kids off at school once and for all. We send them by bus now... That way, SWMBO can stay
home and bake muffins (hope she don't read this).
Got to go now, apparently.

I think a special license for towing a Trailer or Caravan would be smart. Maybe some of them learn to pull over ones in a while and let people go past while they need to sit on 60 in the 80 zone.

Ok, I'll bite!!!
I am an "over 30" mum who drops her kids off at school in a 4wd! First of all, what's with the "over 30" crap? When you hit 30, does that make you a worse driver? Second, YES, women are worse drivers in general, but I have to tell you that I have been stuck behind many a tradesman, in 4wd's, on their phone, who are swerving all over the road and generally not concentrating and "old" men who are doing 60 in a 100 zone!
Third, after all the cooking, cleaning, washing, etc I don't have time to practice driving cause I am too busy looking after my husband!
I realise this may be a joke...but I'm getting sick of blokes trashing mum's dropping off their school kids in 4wd's. We personally have a 4wd so that we can go off road and enjoy our great country and I (mum dropping off kids) drive it because my husband has a work car supplied to him and we don't want (and don't have room for) another car just for school runs!
Alright, I feel better! lol Please don't take it personally, I just need to vent every now and then, and you guys asked for it!

Michelle - I can't figure out either why those who choose to bash 4WD owners (but not people-carrier owners, van owners, light truck owners, sportscar owners) choose to bash kids being dropped off in 4WDs
We've always been a one-car family and if we dropped our son off at school it had to be in a 4WD.
I guess it's just another indication these 4WD-bashers don't let logic get in the way of their talking.
