Hi our 2000 3.0L patrol began running rough and became difficult to start, off to the mechanics we went. Number 4 full of coolant (familiar story so far). Removal of cylinder head showed cracks in pistons 1,2&4. cracked at cylinder 1,3&4. We have had the car regularly serviced and it has only done 150000km. Our local dealer put a claim in to Nissan HQ, There response was to offer to pay 50% of a bottom end rebuild kit parts only,= about $900.00. We have been quoted $6000.00 for repairs. When contacting Nissan HQ lets say they are being less than helpful even though one customer service rep I spoke to admitted a fault with the engine but had a too bad attitude. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Not too sure where you can go to from here but a LOT of people on this
forum have had this experience and i would suggest that you possibly stand your ground and see how much you can get out of nissan HQ.
Can i also suggest that you replace the air flow/mass meter BEFORE the engine is started after repair as this more than likely the start/cause of the failure.

Sorry to hear about your engine, can you please tell me did you use your Nissan for towing, and did you get your Nissan serviced at Nissan or at a mechanics
shop. the reason I also have a 2000 Nissan 3lt and I am trying to decide what to do.

I had it serviced at both Nissan and Repco. We used it for towing our off road camper trailer, my advice if it hasn't gone bang yet is to trade to a later model if youcan. 2003 onwards seem to have less problems. Good luck

I don't know if this will help at all but try this person at Nissan.

Do an archive search for 3.0 litre Nissan or a few variants thereof.
Some on here will tell you their is no problem with these engines unfortunately you are one of many.

There was someone on here a few weeks back who had a name and number of a person at Nissan (woman I think it was from memory, Val maybe???) and a phone number. Apparently this person has resolved many issues to the satisfaction of the owners. As
John said, do a search and you will find it.
Good luck.

How did I not see that? Still, at least it proves my memory is still OK (I think)...

I have been in contact with Val seems nice, has increased offer slightly but still not what I would call satisfactory. Awaiting to here from her boss.

Don't hold your breath waiting for a satisfactory response from Nissan. I went through the whole sorry saga of a 5th gear failure some time back and the response was "stiff bleep mate"
