I am deciding on a suitable replacement touring tyre to go on the standard 6''x16'' Mitsubishi Triton rims.Standard tyres are 205/16.
I had thought a 215/ 85 R 16 10ply that Cooper make in an ST would be suitable. The diamater of this tyre is 774mm compared to standard of 740mm.The other popular replacement tyre size is 225/75r16.Which would be the best choice?

I should have added my reasons for considering the larger tyre size was for increased ground clearance, improved ride on corrugations and an advantage to have it geared up slightly for towing in 4th gear.

225/75 are about the same diameter as what you've got.
A lot of the RV 90series Prado owners have the same question. I know some who have used the Toyo 215/85 and have been happy. Its not a common size, and you'd struggle to get hold of it if you wanted to get a replacement in a hurry. I don't know anyone who have used the Cooper tyre in that size.

Thanks Phil.I'll have a look at the Toyo tyres.Good point about the unusual size and difficulty in getting hold of a replacement.

hmm what year triton?
our work ones (05) came with crappy 265x70 P rated tyres and were replaced with 265x75 which had some occasional very so slight rubbing
I would be looking to put 235x85 tyres on that size rim (obviosly as long as they wont rub)
There is not a decent or otherwise tyre that is not avalable in that size

Davoe,
I havn't got the Triton yet but will be an 08 model single cab.The tyres that come with it are are 205R16.I thought the235/85 would have been ok but was concerned the overall diamater of 807mm might have been to bigger jump up from standard size of 740mm.
Cheers
Tony
