Hi all.
Wondered if anyone can help please. I have aqured a used Engel freezer. The motor runs and sounds sweet. The thermostat seems to operate and switches the motor on and off, but the problem is the unit doesnt freeze down. Could it be out of gas perhaps? or ideas please.
Great site by the way. Thanks PJ

Hi mate,
Sounds like it needs re-gassing.
One of mine did the same thing.

Hmmm sort of what I thought. The problem might be finding the leak. Any ideas if regassing is easy or not?

In the refrigerant circuit, there is a small filter/dryer. On some model Engels the original filters have a habit of blocking up. This causes reduced gas flow and causes similar symptoms to being short of gas. Unfortunately, this is not something you can fix yourself as it entails removing the gas and breaking into the gas circuit to replace the part, after which it needs evacuating and recharging. However, easily fixed by a good fridgie.
Cheers

If the thermostat is cutting in and out then it must be sensing a temperature change. Therefore some cooling is taking place until the thermostat thinks it got cold enough. I reckon the thermostat is the problem
