Does anyone have a good tip for stopping the back doors (split width vertically hung) on the 80series from squeaking? I've seen this tip on the net but wanted local feedback before I fork out the cash.

Have you tried adjusting the mechanism to take the movement out?

Might be worth a try, first.

Could save you eighty bucks if it works.

Laurie.

Hi TBudge,
l had the same problem back in 1997 when got my 1993 model. I put up with it for about 6 months trying everything, but in the end I went and got new parts.

Since then I have had no problems with the doors Squeaking, I have done about 270000 km since changed over in the last 10 years without a problem all over Aust.

I would not hesitate forking out the $$$$$ as it is well worth it.

Hope this helps,

David
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

Hi,
you can put a little bit on electrical or gaffa tape on the latch, it works for a while and is cheap. This also lets you know exactly where the squeak is comming from so that you don't change the wrong parts.

You can get a dual cab conversions done and that totally eliminates the rear doors from squeaking LOL it costs just a little more than most other cures though ha ha

Tony
THE squeak is caused by the surface of the rubber bump stops on the right hand door becoming so glazed that they squeak where they make contact with the painted surface of the body.
You can reproduce the squeak by rubbing the tip of you index finger on the surface of the rubber bump stop.
The simple fix is to cut a piece of rubber 2mm thick as round as the bump stop say 25mm and stick it on the painted surface, where the bump stop makes contact with the body, use contact cement or Tarzans grip.
It really is as simple as that, my 80 has not squeaked
in the last 5yrs.

Thanks for all your tips guys, I've tried sticking some small rubber spots on the two area's where the rubber knob/stops sit on the body/door (from Geoff43 - thanks mate) and that seems to have done the trick
