Has any one been able to source a after market heater fan or a fan from another source that fits. Mine is a 11/94 Rodeo. It needs a new fan, genuine $450 and a fan speed resistor which is blown $100 and I would like to ease the pain if possible.
Seems to be a common problem so a wrecker isnt a attractive option. Any ideas appreciated ?

Hi kwk56pt,

How stuffed is your fan?

I had a Courier that had the fan only working on full speed, the fan resistor was U/S.

Replaced the resistor, (as you say, about $100) and the fan came back to life on all speeds.

Might be worth a try, check it out with a good auto sparky before spending big $$$.

Cheers

Disco.

The fan has beec affected by water dripping into the cab. I had a electrician load test it and apparrently is drawing more current than it should but wasnt too much. So I did fit a new resistor and it went for another 3 weeks but has blown the resistor again. It works now only on high speed hence the resistor needs replacing and the fan to stop it happening. Apparently the fan is a non serviceable item. What Rodeos I have located being wrecked already have the fans removed but I imagine these will still be pricey from a wrecker. When I locate one I think they will be of dubious quality as the rodeos have a common problem of water leaking into to the fan.

Very common problem with the rodeo.

The fan is mounted upsidedown and water entering the fan chamber drips to the bottom of the motor where the bearing is, there is no drip hole to get rid of any water. The bearing starts to sieze which puts extra load of the motor. The rest you know..........

There is no after market fan for rodeo. As you already know, good secondhand ones are rare.

A new genuine fan is the only option - sorry.

Yes I suspect new genuine parts are the solution but you never know I thought maybe, just maybe someone had overcome the problem without having to pay the toll to cross the drawbridge to access genuine parts.

The mind boggles as to what a wrecker would charge if I could find one. Thanks for your taking the trouble to reply

Graham, sounds encouraging, how did you go about dismantling the resistor. There are 2 blind screws I think need to be removed but how ? I can see the bits that need soldering behind the bakelight shroud.
Any info on how the fan comes apart so as I do not break it.
Thanks Peter

I cannot remember exactly how resistor comes apart, I think the black plastic slides off over the resistor.
The fan; take squirel cage fan off motor, I think screw come down from the top to hold motor to black housing

Thanks Graham, the info on the fan is of some help. I did try to take it apart intially to try and lube the bush but it became tight on the shaft as I was sliding it off and became concerned about breaking it. Have nothing to lose so will give that a go. Maybe the black plastic slides off the resistor, there are recessed clips of some kind in each corner so I will work on those. Once again nothing to lose and thanks for the folloe up.

Kwk56pt

I picked one up for my Rodeo 2/97 for $125.00 as mine dumped and died on me. The only issue is they gave me the wrong model for my vehicle. Apparantly my model was the only one they changed the fan style (Typical lucky Brian). So I see no reason why this fan would not suit yours.

Maybe next time I will get around to installing it ASAP instead of months down the track, so bit hard to take it back.

If interested give me a call. 0422158378.

Thanks
Brian
