They don't use gas but rather a mixture of Ammonia and not recommended to try yourself. Take it to a qualified repairer.

Hi Zacc,
It's a very specialised process and unfortunately, there aren't many repairers around. The gas charge is a combination of ammonia and water with a small amount of hydrogen. If there is a leak, it's always the hydrogen that escapes first due to its low density.
Are you sure it's out of gas? try turning it upside down for a while and give it a good shake. Sometimes all it needs is to mix the gases as the hydrogen can separate internally and prevent it from working.
Cheers
Gerry

yeh am 99% sure as there is a distinct smell of amonia at the base of the heater element , and a yellowish liquid pressent . the fridge is only 18 months old and not covered by warranty. tried 240v and gas , no difference .

If you can smell ammonia you have a leak.
When mine leaked .
I had the choice of recon unit or new unit [apprx$400 or $600]
I took asrecon & it only lasted 2mths sothen went for new.

Hi Zacc
Had mine done about 24 months ago.
The Maddington guy is Ray Summers 9459 1215. Not sure if he is still in business though.
