I am looking at a Jeep Commander CRD as a tug a for a Jayco Sterling 24ft. The van should be delivered in June and the 2008 Commander should be available before then.

Is anyone using a Commander as a tow vehicle - would appreciate some feedback?

I've got a 2007 Grand Cherokee Laredo CRD, same engine as the Commander and I don't think there's too much difference in the specs between the two, 3500kg towing capacity and 375kg towball weight. I tow a 6 metre boat with mine all up it weighs just under 3 tonne...with 510 of torque I have no problems in fact best tow vegicle I have ever had. Generally get around 14l/100k at 90kp/hr, pushing a wind it nudges 15l/100k.
If you get on to this site www.ausjeepoffroad.com there's a section on their forum for Commander drivers and ask the same question there I'm sure you'll get good advise from those who drive them.
Really the best people to ask is those who drive them. The dealer you are purchasing through might be able to put you on to someone they know who are towing with them.
Anyway if you haven't taken one for a test drive yet you're going to be impressed with the vehicles performance; when you do take one up the steepest hill you can find and feel the torque!!!

Hi Sam
I've got a Commander and they are very good. I seriously worry when I plant the foot that the front wheels are going to lift off the ground! Has all the stability systems, ABS, etc, 7 airbags, electronic automatic locking diffs front and rear, constant 4WD. Fully built in the Merc factory in Austria. Great tow vehicles also.
